Tom Kerr, born and educated in Buffalo, New York, started photography as a hobby in the dark ages. “Dark Ages” meaning, he learned photography taking black and white images. To save money and learn more about the creative processing techniques, he built a home darkroom and began developing and printing his images. The ability to influence the final image during the processing was very educational and inspiring.
Over the years, Tom’s photography and equipment progressed with changes in camera equipment from SLR to DSLR cameras almost exclusively within the Canon camera family. A couple years ago, Tom switched from full frame DSLR cameras to mirrorless cameras. Coincidentally, he switched from Canon to Olympus cameras. His Olympus micro-four-thirds mirrorless camera is significantly lighter with no loss in image quality, a much-appreciated feature when doing walks in the woods or along the shore line.
Tom enjoys capturing images around Western New York whether in the city or country but he doesn’t limit himself to outdoor images. He enjoys the ability to create abstract and creative imagery.
Tom participates in two local camera clubs and has won numerous awards in their month and yearly competitions. He has exhibited his works around the Buffalo area and has won Best-In-Show at the Erie County Fair.
